Barbouni restaurant by k-studio

While I was having a look at the entries of the annual RIBA's Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, I spotted not one, not two but five Greek participants (so proud!) One of these entries that is quite interesting is Barbouni (means mullet fish in greek) restaurant on the beach Costa Navarino in Pilos,Greece, designed by architecture firm k-studio.

The restaurant sits on a wooden platform elevated from the sand allowing the waves to break underneath it. The columns form a 'forest' of tree trunks and support a canopy of hanging fabric sheets that resembles the waves on the beach, allowing air to circulate and creating shade during the day. According to the designers: 'The combination of these purposely designed and naturally occurring elements creates a multi-sensory architecture that sits in harmony with the environment, provides a natural, comfortable refuge from the elements and creates an exciting, sociable atmosphere'.
