I'm really excited today sharing with you guys, through a guest-post at myLifebox, this amazing DIY clothing rack I made. When Anna-Rosa invited me to join her guest-post-series she was organizing, while she would be enjoying her little Euro-trip during October, I already designing and planing to make a clothing rack using raw wood and copper. It was just the right timing! I made it (it's a piece of cake...Believe me), photographed it and here it is online just for you.

DIY IKEA Hack: Marbled-Dip-Dye Tall LACK table

The last couple of months I'm working on a renovation at my mother's craft/sewing room. Sometime, eventually, I'm going to post the whole process and final look. Until then I'll share a series of DIYs I'm doing in this room.

Today's post is about an IKEA Hack DIY. My mother wanted a new table for her overlocker, but she needed to be taller than an average table. I was looking for something small in size, tall, cheap and stylish. The NIPEN legs that I really liked from IKEA were quite expensive for my budget and the table tops I found were too big for what I was looking.

The LACK side table was perfect in terms of size, budget and style but it was short. What about assembling two LACK side tables?; I thought! It's still cheaper that any other table I had in mind. This idea gave me the opportunity to experiment on my favourite dip-dye trend. As marble is popular right now, I chose to have a marbled dip-dye tall LACK table.

................................................................................................
MATERIALS:

TWO WHITE LACK SIDE TABLES
MARBLE CONTACT PAPER
................................................................................................

First, take four of the legs and mark an X with a pencil on the underside (the side that isn't drilled), from one corner to the opposite. In this way you'll find the exact centre of the leg. Next, drill with a 4.5mm drill bit where the two lines meet (on the centre of the X). Note that these sides of the legs you drilled are going to be assembled on the table top.

The four remaining legs will be covered with the marble contact paper. Cut the contact paper to be slightly longer than the leg. Slowly and carefully apply the contact paper around the leg, starting from one edge. Press firmly with a ruler as you go to smooth out any air bubbles. Fold the remaining paper on the sides. It's like wrapping a present!

Assemble each 'marble' leg with a white one using the screws of the package. Just connect each side of the screw with the holes on the legs and turn around until the two legs be attached.

Then, assemble the four 'new' legs on the table top, according the IKEA instructions that it comes with.

(Note: For this DIY project you will need only one table top. Keep the other one for some future project or whatever)

I think it came up pretty nice! I'm very pleased with the result! I'd love to hear your opinion and comments!

Just an extra tip: LACK side table comes in many colours. According to your taste and personal style you can combine different colours. For example, my second choice was to use the oak legs instead of the 'marbled' ones. Be creative!

HommieDIY coffee table

It's DIY time! I'm actually really happy 'cause I'm launching a new section in Hommie, the HommieDIY. I'll post some DIYstuff that I make and, according to my opinion, they are amazing! Today's post is about a handcrafted coffee table made from scrap materials. So, here's the story: My friend needed a new coffee table and I needed a reason to create something. That's what I call 'perfect timing'! I suggested I could make one that would be stylish, custom-made and cheap. I had a rough idea of a simple industrial-like design in my mind but I didn't know what to use as a table-top. So I discovered a pile of old scaffold's planks in our storage. It was just the perfect supply and - the most important - it was free. I took one of them, cut it in half, sanded it properly, stained it with pinkish-white wash and then assemble it together with the base. The base is a simple construction from iron plumbing pipes. I screwed the pipes together and then I painted them white, as my friend requested. I'm really proud of it and I think it fits well in this cosy-modern-feminine house.

What do you think? I'd love to read your feedback!

-- Unfortunately, I don't have any decent process photos as I was working late at nights without proper lighting. --

HommieDIY: 3-minute decoration idea

I had bought a handmade silk-screen poster from an artist in England and it was time to finally get its place into my house. It's one of these days that you definitely want to do what you have in mind and in my mind was to hang my Amy-Winehouse-poster on my wall. I had the poster, I had the empty space on the wall but I didn't have any frame in that size. On the other hand, I decided that I didn't want to frame it so I started thinking for an alternative and more contemporary way to hang it. And somehow out of the blue the hanger caught my eye!

This hanger is for trousers which means that it have clips and I could easily 'catch' the poster without leaving marks on the paper. Also, the hanger's hook gave me the chance to hang from a nail like any frame. So simple! My favourite Amy Winehouse's poster was decorated with a temporary modern way, easily, quickly and without spending a quid for an even cheap IKEA frame. I think I might leave it this way for a long time 'cause I really like it! I'm expecting feedback and also to try it and send me pictures!
